Walking Your Dog – Why do it?

Walking your dog is the most important thing you can do to keep your dog relaxed and healthy.  It helps your dog remain balanced which translates to a happy and content dog.  While walking your dog daily helps drain your dog of excess energy and lead to an overall calmer, and more responsive dog, exercise isn’t the only benefit of walking your dog everyday. 

Walking regularly will help keep your dog at a healthy weight and help keep your dog in shape.  They are more likely to meet other dogs and humans which allows your dog to become more comfortable making new friends.  New experiences can be challenging for a dog that is not socialized and can lead to aggressive behaviours.  The more often your dog can be exposed to new situations without anything negative occurring, the greater the capacity your dog will have to continue to handle surprises without panicking.  Walking allows time to establish and maintain your role in the pack as leader.  If led calmly and with confidence, your pack will respect, trust, and love you in all situations as you’ve successfully kept them safe and returned home.
